Hunter Gross is an American percussionist, chamber musician, and educator currently based in Denton, Texas. As a prominent member of the acclaimed Heartland Marimba Quartet (HMQ), Hunter maintains an active performance and touring schedule while pursuing his doctoral studies at the University of North Texas where he serves as a Graduate Teaching Fellow.

A versatile performer with international reach, Hunter toured Spain, Portugal, and the United Kingdom in 2023 as a selected artist with the World Percussion Group, presenting showcase concerts at prestigious conservatories including the Royal College of Music in London and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. His work with the Heartland Marimba Quartet has further established his presence in the percussion community, including showcase performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), 2024 Kansas Day of Percussion, 2025 Oklahoma Day of Percussion, recordings at Kent State University, and notable concerts across the United States, Canada and Hong Kong.

Hunter's commitment to expanding the percussion repertoire continues through commissions and consortium projects with contemporary composers. Recent projects include works from Brian Mark, Molly Joyce, Steven Snowden, Nicole Knorr, Dewa Alit, and a major collaborative work, "Death Valley Symphony, Dark Sky" by Jenni Brandon featuring chamber choir, SATB choir, percussion ensemble, piano, and marimba quartet, premiered with the Heartland Marimba Quartet at Kutztown University.

Hunter's performance accolades include First Place in the Keyboard Division of the 2020 Percussive Arts Society International Convention Solo Competition and First Prize in the 2017 Ladies Music Club of OKC Music Scholarship Competition. He appears on multiple recordings, including "Digital Dances: Marimba Music of Marco Schirripa" (2023) with the Heartland Marimba Quartet and Von Hansen’s debut album, "Mortal Coil" (2025). Looking ahead, Hunter and the Heartland Marimba Quartet will be in residence at the esteemed Avaloch Farm Music Institute in May 2025, where they will develop new repertoire and collaborative projects.

An active educator and clinician, Hunter has presented masterclasses across the United States and internationally on topics ranging from French rudimental drumming to keyboard technique and entrepreneurship. Prior to his doctoral studies, Hunter served as Adjunct Professor of Percussion and Music Education at East Central University from 2022-2024, where he co-coordinated the percussion program. He holds degrees from the University of North Florida (MM) and the University of Oklahoma (BM), and has been published in the Percussive Arts Society's Rhythm! Scene.

Hunter is an educational artist with Marimba One, Sabian Cymbals and Accessories, and Salyers Percussion and Encore Mallets. He maintains professional affiliations with TMEA, NAfME, and the Percussive Arts Society, where he previously served as chair of the Webinar Committee for the PAS University Student Committee.
